Kiddos' Chocolate Chip Cookies

As those of you who read my blog regularly know, Kiddos 1 and 4 surpised us late one night with delicious cookies.  We were canning corn and it was late.  The cookies were a wonderful surprise and treat!  :-)  They researched the recipe themselves, so it is different from the chocolate chip cookies that I make. They were really quite tasty.

Kiddos's Chocolate Chip Cookies
2/3 cup shortening
2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla (kiddos used just a wee bit more.)
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
2 packages (6 ounces each) or 1 package (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.  Mix thoroughly shortening, butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla.  Stir in remaining ingredients.  (For a softer, rounder cookie, add 1/2 cup flour)

Drop dough by rounded teaspoonsful 2 inches apart onto baking sheet.  Bake 8-10 minutes or until light brown.  Cool slightly before removing from baking sheet.  Enjoy!

They sound great. It's a different recipe than I use too. It definitely makes a bigger batch which would be great for our household. I love it when kids get in the kitchen and bake & cook!

I've never thought of wearing gloves, but that is a good idea. This looks like a yummy recipe and hope we get to bake cookies together sometime.
