Try a New Recipe Tuesday- February 19

This week, Kiddo #4 wanted to try a new recipe.  She chose brownies.  These were SO good.  I mean really, really good.  :-) (and they have whole wheat flour in them, which makes them just a little bit healthy, right?  lol.)

She also decided that she wants to start her own bakery (not someday, now.)
:-)

Whole Wheat Brownies (adapted from Sesame Street Yummy Cookies cookbook)
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350.  Grease an 8-inch square pan.  Stir the flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl.  Melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat.  Add the sugar; stir for 4 minutes or until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture is smooth.  Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the cocoa.  Beat in the eggs and vanilla until well blended.

Stir in the flour mixture until blended.

Stir in the chocolate chips.  Spread the batter in the pan.

Bake for 16-20 minutes or until the toothpick inserted in the center comes out almost clean.

Enjoy! (we certainly did!)

Looks good! I like that you used whole wheat. I cam over from Tasty Thursday at The Mandatory Mooch. I have a lot of whole wheat flour and I'm gonna have to try this!
