We also visit frequently for research, books to read/write about and to visit their discount bookcellar.
Dusty, from To the Moon and Back, has a wonderful post all about Library Skills for children and how much there is to gain from time in the library:
The guest post was written by a librarian and outlines how many resources (in addition to great books!) can be found in the library and the life skills that our children learn from being there.
If your library doesn't yet offer homeschool-specific programs, talk to your children's librarian. They want to hear from you and are eager to provide programs for the community in which they serve.

I love the public library. We've been visiting the library weekly this summer, there's so much you can do and borrow that many people don't know about so it's good to bring awareness to that. Great post!
We, too, take advantage of a TON of library programs! I do need to work on my kids' actual library skills though. They love libraries, but could, perhaps, learn the dewey decimal system....
