My Week in Review/THMJ/Weekly Wrap-up July 3/10

Wow, June is gone and July is halfway over.  Cannot believe how the time is flying.

Lots going on here.  Kiddos have been very helpful in getting projects done around the house.  They helped me lay floor down in the kitchen.  Doesn't it look nice?  We worked hard.  They have also helped hubby paint all of their rooms.

They have also all enjoyed their Taekwondo or kickboxing each week.  Here is Kiddo #4 looking quite dangerous!

and her brothers seeming like they, too, know how to fly:

Kiddos have enjoyed bowling each week with their friends

We also had a wonderful July 4th celebration with family and dear friends that included sparklers!  :-)

In the collage below, you can see the special cake I ordered for the occasion, one of the decorations I made, Kiddo #4 picking the first cucumber of the season and Kiddo #1 hard at work getting the food all cooked on the BBQ.  :-)

My parents threw a great BBQ and a fun time was had by all.

It is "crunch-time" for our 4-H projects and they are working hard to get them done

Much to do, always, lol!  Isn't that the way it always is?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  Keep cool and God bless!  :-)

TOS Review- Prasso Ministries

Today I am reviewing the Teen Prasso Teacher's Manual and Homework Manual from Prasso Ministries, a company that prides itself on teaching Christians to use the Bible in their daily lives.

Any Christian parent can tell you that it is a challenge to find material that will encourage their teens on their faith journey.  The word 'Prasso' grabbed my attention immediately.  It is a Greek word meaning "to repeatedly, continually and habitually practice."  How appropriate for a Bible study!

The Student(Homework) Journal includes six 20-minute lessons a week for the teen to work on independently.

Teen Prasso Review
Each lesson consists of an introduction, the reading and writing of Scripture verses and answering questions.  In some lessons, they are prompted to delve a bit more into researching a topic.  The lessons covered are as follows:
  • God your Heavenly Father
  • God's Love
  • Why doesn't 1+2 add up in my life?
  • It's an all-out War
  • The Enemy's Lies and where they lead
  • Pressure
  • Anger
  • Forgiveness
  • Two Brothers Pride and Selfishness
  • Refocus
  • Prasso, putting it all together
  • The Journey
  • Eternal Eyeglasses
The Teacher's Manual contains instructions for the group discussion leaders.  It explains the leader's role and gives specifics on how to prepare each week.  Each lesson also contains a scripted fictional story that demonstrates and cements the principles of the lesson for the teens.

Teen Prasso Review
There are also prompts and tips included to help facilitate discussions with different personality types in a group.
The lessons correspond exactly with those in the student manual, but have slightly different titles. They are:
  • The Right Beginning
  • The Map
  • The Bridge
  • The Storms
  • The Enemy
  • Full Testimony
  • Two Opposing Fears
  • Anger
  • Forgiveness
  • Pride
  • Refocus
  • Prasso
  • Eternal Eyeglasses
Kiddos 1 and 2 used the Student/Homework Journal independently.  We would then come together to discuss what they had learned or questions they may have had about a particular topic.  When I asked them, for the purposes of this review, what they liked most about the program, they both were in agreement-- the 'Message Goals' were very important and are so needed for teens (and us all, for that matter) in today's world.  They are:
  • God's Word is the standard by which we should live, not the world's.
  • The reality and nature of Spiritual Warfare (yes, it is real and it is taking place.  We should not live in fear, but should be prepared)
  • The difference between 'fear of God' and 'fear of man.'
  • The dangers of the sins of pride and selfishness
  • There is a choice-- train the will to serve God or oneself.

Pretty powerful, is it not?  As parents, we need to give our teens all of the spiritual strength (putting on the armor of God) we possibly can.  This program is a good tool to do just that.
